RDSP-Uptake Survey

Help us spread the word about the RDSP!
The Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP) is a government-funded, long-term financial planning tool for people with disabilities. Beneficiaries of the RDSP can be eligible to receive up to $3 from the federal government for every dollar they invest, with the potential to earn an additional government grant of $1000 each year for 20 years. Most importantly, the RDSP won’t affect any provincial disability payments.
Of the 500,000 Canadians who are eligible for the RDSP, only 10 percent have signed up.
If you are a person with a disability, or someone who provides care to someone with a disability, please complete this 5-minute survey. The information you share with us will make it easier to reach other eligible Canadians who aren’t yet aware of the benefits of having an RDSP.
The survey is completely anonymous and all questions are optional.

My husband saw our son’s psychiatrist yesterday to apply for the Disability Tax Credit. He got it several years ago but it has run out. He suffers from schizophrenia. We were shocked when she said that all her recent applications were being rejected by Revenue Canada, unless the applicant was hospitalized.
This means that people with schizophrenia are then ineligible for the RDSP. No wonder it is taking so long for people for people with mental illness to gain access to this great program.
We have not yet applied for the RDSP for our son because of the issue of financial competence. He cannot handle money so we would have to have him designated as financially incompetent to overcome that difficulty and are reluctant to take this step yet.
Thank you for all your good work,
Aine

To get RDSP information out to the community – Why doesn’t the federal government provide information package on the RDSP when they mail out the tax information. As they are the body that approves the Disability Tax Credit – they should have all the pertinenet information. In addition, anyone claiming the DTC – they could mail out info when they mail out your summary tax report after you submit your taxes.
Just a thought

My husband and I registered our daughter for the RDSP when she turned 19 at the Royal Bank of Canada. We have received no info from the bank. Are we supposed to or does everything just go right to the government. We have a “Representation Agreement” in place. She is now 24 years of age….
